On any given day, about 1/3 of children
consume fast food. A bunch of fast food restaurants have pledged voluntarily to
make changes and so we wanted to see how well they’ve delivered on their promises.
We found that about a third of the time the restaurant still listed fountain drinks
on their menu boards and similar to the drinks, all of the restaurants now
have healthier side options, but they’re even less likely to suggest them when
someone comes into the restaurant to buy a kid’s meal. If I had to give the fast-food
restaurants a grade I’d probably give them a C-Minus. I mean they’re making
progress in terms of adding healthier choices to their kids meal menus but now
they have to do a lot more to really encourage parents to purchase those
choices when they’re inside the restaurant.
