Navy Yard Restaurants: RASA Brings You the Essence of Delicious Indian Food

(upbeat music) – Hi guys, this is Anshul Palli from the Keri Shull Real Estate Team, we’re here in Navy Yard in front of Rasa, a lot of really great dishes to check out, thanks for coming in. (music picks up tempo) So, Sahil, just wanted to talk to you a little bit about the
highlights of your restaurant and really what makes you unique to the Navy Yard neighborhood. – [Sahil] We are both American and Indian. Our parents are from India,
but we were born here. When you walk into Rasa, you’re greeted by a big blue door, that we
actually had custom built in India, and it was
shipped from New Delhi all the way to DC, so we
want to invite people in. We had my aunt paint all
these paintings here, so the word Rasa means the essence of, getting to the core of something, whether it’s flavor, taste,
or even human emotion. These are the nine rasas, which are the nine
essential human emotions, asking people to check in with themselves when they get here, to figure
out what they’re feeling, and also bring some pop of color, so we opened up about
a year and a half ago and we’re absolutely loving it so far. – [Anshul] So in front of us here, we have two different dishes. We’d love for you to take us through exactly what’s in these dishes and what they have to offer. – [Sahil] Today we’ve
got two of our bowls, this one right here is
the Take a Chance On Me, so this one starts with a
base of white basmati rice, we add on some freshly
cooked chicken tikka, add on a tomato garlic sauce
and some sauteed spinach, and then finish it off with
some pickled vegetables and a couple chutneys,
including a mint cilantro, and a cumin yogurt. This one right here is the Upbeat Salad, it starts with a base of greens mix, we call it the sexy greens. We add on some sweet potatoes, some spring chick peas,
as well as mango salsa, masala beets, and a cucumber salad. We’ve got a really wide
variety of options. – [Anshul] In front of
us here we actually have two fresh coconuts, which I
thought was really incredible. How did you come up with that idea? – Yeah, so before we opened up Rasa, my partner Raul and I took
a month long research trip through India. – Oh wow. – And so, we were drinking
fresh coconuts there and thought how incredible it would be to try and bring this
experience to our guests in DC. So we actually get these
coconuts imported directly from Southeast Asia and crack
them fresh for our guests. – [Anshul] It’s incredible. Any other drinks that are on the menu that you find to be unique to Rasa? – Well, I’ve seen you crush a
number of tamarind margaritas (Anshul laughs) as well as gin and tonic, so I’d be remise not to mention those. (laughing from both) – It’s true. – And we also spike the coconuts. We do a number of homemade juices as well, like a mint cardamom limeade, we’re about to introduce
watermelon juice as well. – If you’re looking for
incredible Indian food and drinks in the Washington DC area, you have to check out Rasa. If you have any real estate needs or looking to purchase a home, contact the Keri Shull Real Estate Team. – Thank you so much
